PASTELS REVISITED A LOOK INTO THE WORLD OF A DRY PAINTING MEDIUM The Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts in Spring will host Pastels Revisited, an exhibition of fine art pastel paintings by members of the Pastel Society of Southeast Texas, June 5 through June 30. “Get your fingers messy.” That’s what members of PSST will tell kids on Saturday, June 14. PSST has joined with the Pearl Fincher MFA for their June Family Fun Day. PSST members will help children experience hands-on painting with pastel and do live demonstrations. Family Fun Day hours are 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM. “Children especially love painting with pastel; it’s right there in their hands,” commented Carolyn Hancock, president of PSST. “Working with the kids, showing them the beauty of pastel, it will be a fun day. And the public gets a chance to see original pastel paintings on exhibit.” The artwork on display is 9 x 12 inches or less. If you have the chance to visit the Art Gallery at the Center for the Arts and Sciences in Clute, TX by all means do it. You will find some of the finest pastel artwork in the state there on exhibit through March 8th. BASF Corporation, a worldwide chemical company, hosted the opening reception on Friday evening attended by artists, art enthusiasts and the general public. Show Judge Alan Flattmann spoke on the versatility and properties of pastel and then presented the awards. Best of Show went to “Thoughts of Elberta” by Brenda Hash, First Place to “The Sea” by Linda Dellandre, Second Place to “Mostly Blue” by Irena Taylor, Third Place to “Miss Lilly Rose” by Rita Kirkman and Honorable Mentions were given to “Peaceful” by Betty James and “Girl Wearing a Bandana” by John Markese. It was an enjoyable event which followed the conclusion of a three day Landscape & Cityscape Workshop conducted by Mr. Flattmann. Many thanks go to the Brazosport Art League for all their help and support with both the reception and the workshop. Their facility in Clute is one of the finest in the area. It really was beginning to look a lot like Christmas on Saturday the 7th. It was a very cold day, warmed beautifully by the Christmas decorated house and hospitality of Sharon Haney and her husband. Sixteen PSST members braved the cold and the distance but what a great reward. Friends and food, followed by the fun of swapping and stealing of these mini-originals.
